General information
Full name: Aquafom AFFF/AR and AFFF/AR-LV types synthetic fluorine-containing film-forming alcohol-resistant special purpose foam concentrates for extinguishing water-soluble and water-insoluble flammable liquids
Purpose and scope
Aquafom AFFF/AR and AFFF/AR-LV types synthetic fluorine-containing film-forming alcohol-resistant foam concentrates are designed to extinguish fires class A and B in accordance with GOST 27331. The foam concentrate is an aqueous solution of fluorosynthetic surface-active substances (FPAS), hydrocarbon surfactants with stabilizing and frost-resistant additives. To limit mixing of the foam concentrate solution and polar flammable liquid, plasticizers and polymers are added into the foam concentrate composition.
Modifications
Aquafom AFFF/AR type foam concentrates are divided into 3 types.
- Aquafom-IIH is a synthetic fluorine-containing film-forming alcohol-resistant special purpose foam concentrate designed to extinguishing fires of water-soluble (polar) and water-insoluble (non-polar) combustible liquids with low expansion foam;
- Aquafom-IINSV is a synthetic fluorine-containing film-forming alcohol-resistant special purpose foam concentrate designed to extinguishing fires of water-soluble (polar) and water-insoluble (non-polar) combustible liquids with foam of low, medium and high expansion.
- Aquafom-IIH-LV is a low viscosity (AFFF/AR-LV) synthetic fluorine-containing film-forming alcohol-resistant special purpose foam concentrate designed to extinguishing fires of water-soluble (polar) and water-insoluble (non-polar) combustible liquids with low expansion foam. The use of Aquafom-IIH-LV foam concentrate is possible with all types of dosing systems.
The mechanism of action of foam concentrates of this type in extinguishing with low expansion foam is to isolate a combustible substance with a self-spreading film, end oxygen access to the fire bed and decrease temperature due to cooling properties of the foam concentrate solution. The insulation with film is achieved in less time and with less solution volume than with foam. Due to a self-dissolve ability and tightening the vapor breakthroughs of flammable liquids, the film protects from burnback for longer periods. Plasticizers and polymers prevent the interpenetration of the foam concentrate solution and the polar combustible liquid and provide good film and foam stability on the surface. The mechanism of action of Aquafom-IINSV when extinguishing with high expansion foam is similar to that of S type foam concentrates. When using the Aquafom-IINSV foam concentrate for extinguishing with medium expansion foam, an intermediate mechanism of action is implemented: it is the formation of both foam and film insulating layers.
Aquafom-IIN and Aquafom-IINSS foam concentrates are available in 3% and 6% modifications of the foam concentrate in the premix with a pour point from minus 15 ºС to minus 40 ºС.
Modifications of Aquafom-IIН and Aquafom-IINSV depending on the volume concentration of the foam concentrate in the premix and pour point:
- 1% with pour points minus 15 ºС max and minus 30 ºС max;
- 3% and 6% with pour points from minus 15 ºС max to minus 60 ºС max

Fire extinguishing rate
Aquafom-IIN and Aquafom-INSV foam concentrate solution supply rate for extinguishing fires with foam of low and medium expansion is adopted in accordance with SP 155.13130.2014, Recommendations for extinguishing polar liquids in tanks.
When calculating fire extinguishing installations for foam of low, medium and high expansion, the requirements of SP 5.13130.2009, sections 5, 6 and 7, annexes B and Г should be taken into consideration.
Environmental protection
Aquafom-IIN and Aquafom-IINSV foam concentrates are biodegradable products. According to GOST 32509-2013, biodegradability class 2: “moderately degradable” substances. The foam concentrates are allowed to discharge into industrial wastewater after diluting it with water to the maximum permissible concentration (MPC) of surfactants equal 20 mg/dm3 under the active substance. MPC of the foam concentrate in the water of economic and cultural objects – 0,5 mg/dm3.
Wastewater generated by flushing equipment is discharged into industrial sewer, from where it flows to biological treatment plants.
In the process of production and use of Aquafom-IIN and Aquafom-IINSV foam concentrates no secondary hazardous compounds are formed.
