Pozhneftehim continues the R&D program to create and develop new types of equipment for stationary fire extinguishing systems. Another document appeared in the company’s patent database - a patent for a utility model of a new design nozzle for subsurface suppression installations.
The Round Valve nozzle for subsurface suppression is an upgraded model of the standard subsurface nozzle. Product advantages include increased protection against clogging of the internal foam subsurface suppression piping and improved characteristics of the foam injection.
The Round Valve nozzle for subsurface fire suppression has an H- and T-shaped design. The new design, due to the valve adjustable tightness, prevents ingress of bottom sediments and other inclusions from entering the internal foam piping.
Subsurface suppression as a part of automatic installation for fire extinguishing of tanks with low expansion foam is provided for tanks with a volume of 5000 m³ or higher. The decision to introduce subsurface suppression technology in addition to fire extinguishing by low expansion foam generators and feeding of fire extinguishing agents to the oil product surface is to be made by the design organization. At the same time, the volume of tanks and the type of stored HIL and FL should be taken into consideration.
“Subsurface suppression may be the only effective extinguishing method if, during the fire, the tank upper belt is severely damaged and the fire extinguishing system with the feeder of foam to the surface is destroyed. This is a likely scenario, since a tank fire may start with an explosion,” says Sergey Panov, Pozhneftehim Technical Director.

Patent 189673 for a new design “Nozzle for subsurface suppression installation” was registered on May 30, 2019. The prototype for the product is Pozhneftehim foam nozzle, which was developed in 2013 and obtained a utility model patent 129004. The validity period of the exclusive right to a new utility model is actual until April 1, 2029. The nozzle model is in mass production and can be used in foam fire extinguishing systems.
The patent database confirming the exclusive right to utility models, which are the company's own design work, as of 2019 already contains more than 15 documents. More details in the section "Patents".
Pozhneftehim is developing fire extinguishing equipment tested at an accredited hydraulic test bench with a total output of more than 320 l/s, which is comparable to the output of a fire extinguishing installation of an industrial enterprise.
